Preparing for Your Baby's Best Portraits
- Make sure your child is rested and fed prior to the appointment.
Tired, hungry children don't smile easily.
- Little ones photograph best in simple clothing that doesn't
overpower their delicate features. Whites and pastels are classic
choices, and casual play clothing works well for older babies.
This is also a great time for no clothes at all!
Preparing for Your Child's Best Portraits
- Make sure your child is rested and fed prior to the appointment.
Tired, hungry children don't smile easily.
- A child's personality can shine in understated clothing or outfits
and props that express their personality and favorite playtime
activities. Dress your child in comfortable clothing. Solid colors
are best. Avoid busy patterns; they will draw attention away from
your child's face.
- For portraits involving more than one child, dress the children
in similar colors or tones. This provides a unified look to the
portrait. If one child has colors significantly different than
the others, the eye will be drawn to that child's clothing instead
of to the children's faces.
- Take time to check your child's hair to make sure it looks neat
and natural.
- Just before the portrait, double check your child's face and
clothing to make sure all is clean and neat.
- Consider bringing a favorite toy or props to customize your
portrait.
- Relax and have fun!
Preparing for Your Family's Best Portraits
- Make sure all children are rested and fed prior to the appointment.
Tired, hungry children don't smile easily.

colors or tones. This provides a unified look to the portrait.
If person has colors significantly different than the others,
the eye will be drawn to that person's clothing instead of to
the faces. This has the effect of making that person look heavier.

and natural.
